What training is like

Coach Chris has a “family style” attitude when it comes to coaching volleyball. He genuinely cares about each player’s well-being. Aside from caring about what I’m doing on the court, he also deeply cares about me as a whole person and what is happening off the court. Not only have I improved my volleyball game, Coach Chris has taught me important life lessons as well. He has become more than just a coach, he is part of our family.

Coach Chris has an unrelenting passion for volleyball and is unbelievably determined when it comes to training. He is willing to help you practice and improve anywhere and anytime. He makes it a priority for athletes to achieve their individual and team goals, and every training session is intentional and intense.

When training with Coach Chris, the minimal expectation is that you go for every ball, are loud and intense, and are willing to experiment technically. Playing in an environment that requires these things of us has led not only physical improvement, but also mental awareness and an appreciation for what makes a good teammate.

If you’re willing to work hard and have a passion for the game you will be very successful. Being athletic is one thing but being a great volleyball player is a whole other thing. You will learn quickly that attitude, motivation and being on time will get you very far. In the gym you’re all one, you have to be willing to go the extra mile for a teammate. Sometimes we don’t stop drills until that last person is finished and if you’re not willing to stand by your teammate and build them when they have nothing left this isn’t the place for you. You will not leave this gym without learning something different every single time, be opened minded and be willing to learn ever single time you come into the gym.

Parents

There are many people who will tell you that they will teach, coach, and mentor your child or children; but not many of them will have the passion and love that Chris has for the game and the student athletes he mentors. Describing Chris to others is very difficult. He is more than just a coach, he is more than a trainer. If I had to describe him and the way he inspires the girls I would have to say mentor is the best word that comes to mind.

It’s definitely your passion about the sport. Your love of volleyball shines through every minute you interact with your athletes. It’s immediately obvious you know the sport of volleyball and absolutely love the game. You are more than willing to give your time and talent to young athletes interested in the sport. As a parent, I appreciated the time dedicated to character development. You care about developing mature, responsible, self-confident girls on and off the court. If they decide to keep playing or not, character matters.

First and foremost I would ask the parent what is the level of commitment their player has to volleyball and what is their commitment as parents to the success and training of their player. IF both answers come back to a yes, then my pitch is simple. My daughter exceled under Coach Chris’s guidance, teaching, and mentorship. He is the only guy that I trust to bring the game out in my daughter. Please understand that this will not be easy and this will not be nice sometimes, but Coach will be walking with you and your player all the way. He will find a way to connect to your player that will inspire and demand the most out of them.

Coach Chris tailors his training to the needs of his athletes. His ability to adjust on the spot per session, allows for a very dynamic and productive training experience. The family atmosphere which is a priority and encouraged from day 1, provides each player with the feeling of being welcome. Coach Chris' drive to provide high quality training at minimal cost to families is invaluable. He never tells an athlete what they want to hear. His honesty, straight-forwardness and motivation ensures all athletes hold themselves accountable on and off the court

What a Veteran Player had to say

I have played for over 20 years... But the experience made me better than I have been in years—the drive, determination, the sheer will to be the best, because Coach Chris gave me an inch, and I took a yard. The drills are spot on, forcing coordination and muscle memory. When you trust your Coach and when you trust yourself, the sky is the limit, and anything is possible. I trained with Chris for three weeks, twice a week and it was amazing! The sport has not changed, but the athlete in me was reinvigorated. The experience helped me set goals, but Chris helped me break them! The training is tough, but competition is tougher; expect to be challenged. You get what you give, and you will learn more than you expect if you choose to. As we move between different levels of play, we have to earn our spot on the court or keep our spot on the court. Even though this is a team sport, nothing is given to you. If you embark on this journey with Coach Chris, be committed to working harder, jumping higher, running faster, and being better. We all make choices, and you made the right choice to choose RYZ volleyball.
